Blog/ Zedify rider embarks on 5,000km cycle ride for charity

Later this month, Zedify Bristol rider Barty will embark on an adventurous 5,000km bicycle journey all the way from Bristol in the UK to Izmir in Turkey to raise money for organisations supporting asylum-seekers and refugees in Lesvos, Greece.

We are really impressed by his social conscience and resolution to undertake the trip, not to mention his decision to use a bicycle for activism!

As a Zedify employee, Barty was able to train for his ride while carrying out deliveries – there really is an upside to all those hills in Bristol! – and the flexibility inherent in his role meant he could fit the vast amount of work that’s gone into organising the trip around his day job.

His ride – which he’s calling Push Bikes Against Push Backs – aims to raise awareness in particular of how asylum-seekers are illegally and violently expelled at the border, without being allowed to submit their claims for asylum.

He’s raising funds for two organisations through his ride. Legal Centre Lesvos is a non-profit organisation that provides free legal assistance to asylum-seekers and refugees, and is one of the few organisations taking the Greek government to court over the issue of push backs. Yoga and Sport with Refugees provides asylum-seekers, refugees and NGO volunteers with sports training, equipment, classes and facilities.
