Traditional methods of delivery are continuing to have a negative impact on our environment through their use of fossil fuels. As a result, we’ve seen a growing trend towards a greater number of courier services implementing more eco-friendly practices to help reduce their carbon footprint and meet environmental targets. These policies could include diversification of fleets, use of eco-conscious packaging, and using local suppliers, to name just a few.

But it’s not just the environment that stands to benefit from companies adopting these greener practices. The benefits of couriers going green can be felt in a number of different ways. In this post, we’ll explore the positive impacts green delivery initiatives can have on both people and the environment.

Providing a sustainable environment

The environment is one of the biggest winners when couriers adopt more eco-friendly practices. Use of alternative methods of transportation is one of the best ways for courier companies to be kinder to the environment, and this is central to the operations of green couriers. For instance, replacing petrol or diesel-powered cars with electric vehicles (EVs) will mean fewer harmful emissions are produced, ultimately reducing the company’s carbon footprint.

As well as the method of delivery, green couriers will often ensure any packaging used to ship their products is sustainable. Replacing single-use plastics with more eco-friendly packaging materials will mean less waste is produced and in turn, less will be sent to landfill.

Good for the Customer

There are so many different ways that the policies of green couriers can benefit the customer. Firstly, recipients could benefit from faster delivery times for their orders. For example, if a company used bikes instead of cars for small parcels, they would be able to better navigate the traffic on busy roads – this is especially valuable in busy cities. What’s more, in some parts of the country, electric vehicles are granted use of the bus lanes, which can make delivery times faster if EVs are part of your fleet.

An important aspect of any green courier service is the way they communicate with customers. The company will want to limit the number of missed deliveries and wasted trips, since they’re not only harmful to the company, but also to the environment. As a result, you can expect an efficient service whereby the courier will organise more precise delivery times with you, to ensure as best they can that the delivery will be received.

Positive impact on an eco-friendly business

In such a competitive market, companies will want to do all they can to differentiate themselves from their competitors, and adopting eco-friendly practices is a great way to do just that. In fact, in one survey, 57% of consumers revealed they’d be willing to change their purchasing habits to help limit their environmental impact. It’s clear that the modern consumer is becoming increasingly eco-conscious, and adopting green practices now will mean you can stay ahead of the competition.

It’s not just the company in question that would benefit Green couriers over conventional shipping brands can  support local businesses and help limit their carbon footprint. The shift to using green couriers will play an important role in supporting local economies, generating more business for independent businesses and brands.
