But what about embodied emissions?
We recognise that there’s more to the story than Well to Wheel emissions. A full cradle to grave life cycle assessment (LCA) is required to paint the whole picture and demonstrate the extent of embodied emissions, so we’ll be undertaking one on our GTrikes soon so we can quantify the impact.
What we do know is that vans use more materials, both across weight and variety, than our light electric GTrikes. This leads to much greater environmental impacts associated with the production and disposal of vans, and therefore embodied emissions, even if they’re electric.
How accurate are your numbers?
We can never ensure 100% accuracy. However, we’ve tried to use credible sources, direct representative comparisons, and original manufacturer information for our calculations. You can find all of these and our methodology here in our insights section with our latest impact report. We also recognise that our numbers will be subject to change as research and the industry evolves e.g. with the grid decarbonising and vehicles becoming more efficient.
How beneficial are deliveries by cargo bike?
Pretty impressively so, and the most tangible way of quantifying and demonstrating this benefit is to look at savings of carbon dioxide equivalent.
If we compare the well to wheel grams of carbon dioxide equivalent released from our cargo bikes to a small diesel Ford Transit van, 295g of CO2e is saved per kilometre travelled. That’s equivalent to a 95% saving!
When comparing against an electric van, delivery by cargo bike saves 67 g CO2e per km from well to wheel when compared to a small Ford eTransit van, equivalent to a saving of 82%.
What does zero tailpipe emission delivery mean?
Deliveries which are made by vehicles which don’t emit any gasses or particulate matter when traveling from A to B.
Vehicles with internal combustion engines that are powered by fossil fuels such as petrol and diesel will emit carbon dioxide (CO2), nitrogen oxides (NOx), sulphur dioxide (SO2), and particulate matter from their exhaust.
In short, zero tailpipe emission delivery means cleaner and safer deliveries that are better for everyone.
What makes Zedify ‘sustainable’?
We recognise that the current default delivery method just isn’t sustainable – from tailpipe emissions contributing to unhealthy levels of air pollution and releasing greenhouse gasses, to the large vehicles causing severe congestion in cities and noise disruption from noisy engines.
We’re scaling up a delivery model that aims to address all these issues in a coherent, efficient and sustainable way through using electric cargo bikes for the vast majority of our deliveries. Not only do these bikes emit less harmful emissions and particulate matter than traditional vans, cargo bikes take up less space on the road and are quiet! This helps to create cleaner cities which are more liveable for everyone living and working there.

Is there anything Zedify won’t deliver?
While we can deliver most items, there are one or two things we are currently unable to courier.
We cannot deliver refrigerated goods unless you pack your items in chilled packaging first, for our riders to pick up.
Our cargo delivery bikes are more than meets the eye – they definitely hold a lot of parcels but we cannot transport very large or heavy-duty goods such as sofas and beds. Health and safety come first for us – we won’t be balancing large pieces of furniture on top of our bikes.
For such bulky items, we might use our electric vans. Please enquire at hello@zedify.co.uk to let us know what your business needs delivered.

You can find out more in our blog post: Zero emissions- what does it mean?
What is last mile delivery?
Last-mile delivery is the route taken to deliver parcels from the last or nearest delivery hub to the final destination (usually your customer’s home or office).

To help clean up our cities, the vast majority of Zedify’s packages are transported using cargo bikes, which are a whopping 98% lower in toxic emissions.
What is the cost?
Due to our use nimble of edge-of-city microhubs and cycle infrastructure, Zedify can offer highly competitive delivery rates in urban areas.
What kind of deliveries do you do?
Most of our deliveries are ecommerce items. We can deliver fragile and perishable items. As our bikes are not refrigerated, we recommend that you package your items in refrigerated bags and our friendly riders can safely deliver these packages. Our cargo delivery bikes are more than meet the eye – they definitely hold a lot of parcels but we cannot transport very large or heavy duty goods such as sofas and beds. Health and safety comes first for us – we won’t be balancing large pieces of furniture on top of our bikes! For such bulky items, we might use our electric vans. Please enquire at hello@zedify.co.uk to let us know what your business needs delivered.
