Theworld’sfirstcarbon-freebatterycollectionscheme
Let’s talk about Re-Volt, the battery recycling scheme. ⚡️Batteries, recycling… so what? “I can do that in my local supermarket so what’s the big deal?”
Welcome to the world’s first carbon-free collection scheme – now in Plymouth.
Batteries collected from supermarkets normally get loaded into a large truck that makes multiple trips back and forth, contributing to urban pollution and congestion. But since Valpak Limited rolled out the scheme in Plymouth last June, the Zedify team have:
🔋 collected 1500kg of batteries on cargo bikes
🌳 saved more than 121kg carbon
🚲 ensured that these trucks make one trip only: to the hub on the outskirts of the city
The scheme is already in operation across Cambridge, London, Brighton, Southampton and Hereford, so it’s brilliant to see it reach its sixth city. It’s another great step towards a greener Plymouth, and a more circular economy across the UK.
The benefits are not restricted solely to carbon emissions, either – the scheme aids in improving the safety and tranquility of Plymouth’s urban areas by removing vans from the roads.
